ENVIRONMENTAL STRATEGY

RAINWATER HARVESTING PRECEDENT

This real-estate developer’s showroom in China uses its undulating roof as a rainwater harvesting system. It is comprised of 26 hexagonal steel structure modules supporting roofs shaped like inverted umbrellas. Some modules are enclosed with glass panels whereas others are used as exterior shelter space. Each of the hexagonal cells has six angled gutters which point towards a central pipe column that contains a flue for directing rainwater to a tank so it can be reused to irrigate the surrounding landscaping and refill a small pond.

TREE STUDY
A rainwater harvesting system is used in both the greenhouses and the cafe and grocery, due to their undulating roofs. Both are comprised of inverted 'umbrella-like' roof units which guide the rainwater down to the centre and down through a pipe into the ground and stored.

The section below shows the central funnel-like collumns collecting water and the journey it takes through the pipes to a storage tank.

A sedum roof method is used on all the housing units to make up for lost vegetation from the site.
